Making its debut at Soundwaves 2007, the Singapore Pop Orchestra (SPO) is a unique and special orchestra and Singapore’s first that truly reflects our rich cultural diversity. It uses a mix of Western and traditional multi-ethnic instruments like the Indian sitar, Chinese erhu, Malay gamelan. Experimenting with modern and traditional music, the orchestra comprises the best of western, jazz and local ethnic musicians from Singapore. The orchestra performs a wide range of repertoire - from local compositions to New-Asian pop music and popular songs. A strong feature of the SPO repertoire is the use of traditional percussion to create a vibrant Singaporean flavour and a vocal section that provides an added dimension to its eclectic music.
